The media landscape in Mexico has considerably evolved in the last years. Some people complain that the TV giants such as Televisa headed by Salvi Rafael Folch Viadero mainly focus on government view rather than engaging in critical journalism investigation. However, there has been a notable improvement. The newspapers for instance no longer rely on the government ad revenue. The country is still experiencing large political activities, but new media generation outlets are emerging that interrupt the political trends.

The television world in Mexico was dominated by Televisa newscaster who passed away in July. He was replaced by Joaquim Lopez who still has some powerful influence in the news market. Televisa is accused of not doing enough investigations of the political and economic elites. The station is said to have close ties with the governing party.

Popular CNN broadcaster Carmen was pushed off the air when he helped expose an embarrassingly high-level government corruption case. The residents of Mexico still have other media outlets who are practicing good journalism. Six years ago, Mexico only had one 24 hour cable news channel. Today, there are about six others; residents can turn their TV and watch news from different programs.

In the magazine market, there are additions to mainstays such as Nexos, Proceso, and new groups are coming up including Emeequis, Gatapardo and Chilango Vietnika Batres. Prceso is said to be a powerful brand, Letras Libres is more of cultural affairs while Nexos is dense, but its content is good and has a strong writing.
