The Sightsavers do their work in Southern Asia and many parts of Central and South Africa. They have focused on the underdeveloped parts of the work where basic amenities and healthcare are not all that strong, and this article explains how Sightsavers is helping preventable blindness in those who could be saved.

#1: What Is Sightsavers Doing?

Sightsavers is a charity working on behalf of all those who have been stricken with curable blindness. This charity understands that up to 75% of blindness is curable through simple medication and amenities such as clean water and proper diet. They are reaching the parts of the world that have the least access to such things, and they hope to build up communities as they save the sight of children and adults.

#2: Why Africa And Asia?

Africa and Asia are the continents where the most malnourishment and poverty exist. Sightsavers recognizes that children in other parts of the world are living in poverty, but they are not going blind. Children in Africa and Southern Asia are going blind at record rates, and it is simply unacceptable for these children to be allowed to suffer.

#3: Their Outreach

Sightsavers works in work in Benin, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Chad, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Ethiopia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Kenya, India, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Pakistan, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, The Gambia, Uganda, Togo, Zambia, Yemen, and Zimbabwe.

They have established offices and staff in each country to serve the public, and they distribute resources as needed to each country. They know that each country has its own laws and challenges. Sightsavers does an excellent job of working with local officials to start office’s that reach all the people.

#4: Building Up Communities

Sightsavers wants to build up communities that have better infrastructure, and they hope to create communities that sustain running water, better crops for feeding the people, and access to information through the Internet. They have introduced incredible programs that help these villages survive after Sightsavers has moved on to another area.

Sightsavers is committed to serving the blind while also preventing blindness that should not have occurred at all. They are aware of the main causes of curable blindness, and they offer education and information to each community so that they may stop the scourge of curable blindness that ravages young children.
